The Delta Flyer

The Delta Flyer was a specially designed Starfleet shuttlecraft constructed by the crew of the USS Voyager in the Delta Quadrant in 2375. The vessel was designed to handle environments that would be too hazardous for a standard shuttlecraft and to be slightly larger than the average shuttle, the crew having acknowledged that standard shuttles were of little use in the increasingly hostile and unexplored Delta Quadrant. The vessel was a blend of Starfleet and Borg technology, designed in collaboration between B'Elanna Torres, Tom Paris, Tuvok, Harry Kim and Seven of Nine. It featured an warp streamlined tetraburnium alloy hull, retractable warp nacelles, parametallic hull plating, unimatrix shielding, and a Borg-inspired weapon system, including photonic missiles, most of which were Paris' conceptions. For aesthetic reasons, Paris designed the flight controls to resemble those from the holodeck simulation of Captain Proton; when Tuvok complained, Paris explained that he wanted to feel the ship and that he was tired of tapping panels. But to Paris' disappointment, the addition of dynametric tailfins was denied by Tuvok. Instead of having the usual 2 pilot stations, it had several command stations.

Tom: I went in from the shuttle-bay into The Delta Flyer and waited for B'Elanna.

B'Elanna: I entered the Flyer. "Tom? Where are we going?"

Tom: "Back to the Nygean to get their help if possible."

B'Elanna: I nodded. "Okay." I hurried over to the Engineering console, quickly powering on the engines. "Engines are online, we're cleared for departure."

Tom: "Alright. Let's get going then," I said as I pressed various controls. The Delta Flyer shot out of the shuttle-bay. "Hopefully we can get past the ships without being detected."

B'Elanna: "I hope so, too...." I stood up, and moved to the weapons console, just in case. "Shields online, weapons powered, just in case,"

Tom: "It's a good precaution. Alright. We are about to pass the Kazon ship."

B'Elanna: "Okay. Looks good so far, any sign of them firing?"

Tom: "No. Not yet," I replied. Just then they shot a weapon, "I changed my mind. The answer is yes." I said as I began a series of evasive maneuvers.

B'Elanna: "They missed." I announced. "Just keep going, Voyager is covering for us,"

Tom: "Barely missed," I added before continuing on our course.

B'Elanna: "Just keep going, Tom!! Fly the shuttle, don't talk!" I snapped, working the controls. "Just get us out of here so we can get help,"

Tom: "Aye, aye," I muttered. "Going into warp."

B'Elanna: I rolled my eyes. "About time,"

Tom: "Warp 5," I added.

B'Elanna: "I hope they'll be okay..." I sighed, moving to the Engineering Console again. "What happens if something happens to them while we're gone?"

Tom: "We can't do anything about that. I was told to get help from the Nygean, and that's one of our only options. Voyager can't take on all three of those ships alone. We only had a small window of opportunity to get back to the Nygean, and we took it."

B'Elanna: I sighed. "I guess so, yeah,"

Tom: "Warp 8. We'll be back to the Nygean soon enough."

B'Elanna: "Acknowledged. Any idea what we should say to them?"

Tom: I adjusted a few controls, "Simply ask them for help? We did them a favor. And it isn't as if we are asking for a fleet of ships. Although that would be nice."

B'Elanna: "I guess so, but I just have a feeling this won't be too easy..."

Tom: "We have to try, don't we?"

B'Elanna: "I guess so, what choice do we have, really?"
